The book examines the origin and development of the different categories of protected territories in separate countries and continents, as well as the international collaboration in this respect. The basic concepts used in relation to the preservation of biodiversity have been defined, the protected territories have been classified and their structure and management have been explained. Special attention has been paid to the organized movement for the preservation of nature and for the establishment of a network of protected territories in Bulgaria. A review has been made of the state of the network of national and natural parks and reserves here. The state of nature in these parks and reserves has been described and the problems of its management have been outlined.
